UH Daily Cougar News publishing expose on UH bloggers this week
Page 4's "Rebuild New Orleans? Of course," by Joshua Delano lobbied for raising New Orleans from the ashes, and I couldn't disagree too much. I've had some pretty good time in New Orleans and would like to see it come back, but know full well that the true magic of New Orleans -- its people -- may never return.
Delano may have went off a little bit much about Speaker Hastert, but Denny is a tough character. Hell, there are liberals roaming campus today that will be looking up "hastert" on Wikipedia to-nite, trying to dish up dirt on the guy. Which is exactly why the guy was elected to the speakers post in the first place. Anyway, anyone that looks like Wendy's Dave Thomas can't be all that bad.
In Jennifer Jackson's piece "Marriage not as outdated as it seems," in the end endorses traditional marriage but goes about it in a funny way. I did not roll my eyes like some on campus might have when reading it. I mean liberals continue to run to the Islamic religion for guidance on how to live their lives in the "infidel" west, and its like the Supreme Court relying on foreign law and unratified treaties to make decisions on US law. It doesn't make sense.
I'm reserving my judgment on the final product of Garcia y Afonso until I see more.
Today's blogger article was on Assistant Librarian Karen Coombs (aka Library Web Chic) and her blog of the same cool name which recounts the exciting life of being a librarian technologists at the University of Houston.
The student subject of today was hotel and restaurant management and photography junior Chantelle Du Plessis, whose blog RyKrOt's NeSt is an innocent looking and is associated with the University of Houston's Intervarsity Christian Fellowship chapter so thankfully I don't think you will be finding nude pictures or discussions of wild nights will multiple guys in those type of sites. Thank goodness.
We are extremely positive that the UH Conservative Underground will not be featured in the Daily Cougar. We have burnt to many bridges in being critical of the opinion page as well as some of their front page reporting in the past, but we feel righteous in our opinions just as those of the Cougar have their impressions they wish to present.
I am hopeful that Garcia and Afonso will include at least one Conservative blog in the series. The subject of politics is bound to come up during the week unless Tropical Storm Rita dominants the headlines and forces a quick cessation of all publication activities at the Cougar.
The Daily Cougar is under assault for its not very pc editorial cartoon that featured an alleged Katrina victim using negative (urban, you know what that means) stereotypical language and wearing matching garb while hitting on a nurse at Herman Hospital Emergency Room.
If you go to the Daily Cougar and click on the 19ths editorial cartoon, you will actually get the same one that was printed on the sixteenth not the one that was in the paper today.
Here are the NAACP-UH demands
1. Resignation of Matt Dulin
2. Resignation of Arturo Gonzales
3. Resignation of Opinion Editor James Davis.
4. A University fee funded periodical from a minority perspective
5. A formal written apology from the University President, Editor in Chief, Opinion Editor, and the Cartoonist
They are making flyers asking people to call the president, the Cougar, Matt Dulin, James Davis, and they are trying to get people to attend the Student Publication meeting in the UC Satellite on September 29 in the Alison Room at 4 PM. Good place for you to put a mole in my opinion so you can report when the fit hits the sham.
No matter what anyone thought of the non-pc cartoon, free speech does not involve shredding the evidence and taking a dump on the First Amendment when you piss people off if you are the Campus Paper. I hope the DC will at least stick to their guns in the future if they have something to say.
Cato once said: I disagree with everything you have said but I will fight for your right to say it.
The DC should not wet their pants just because the Jessie Jacksonites and Al Sharptonites come bearing down on them. They should either stand their ground or not put controversial stuff on their pages to begin with.
If not, the room will definitely be bugged.
By the way. NAACP demands against the Daily Cougar 1, 2, 3, and 5 are endorsed by the UH Conservative Underground.
If you are going to do something you need to fully own up to it. I post on this without my identity only because there are other issues that I feel are more important that I must pursue publicly and get as broad a coalition as possible to support. I also do this anonomously because I don't want some psycho, who is too intellectually lazy or impaired to fight my speech with an argument of their own to make the fatal mistake of physically assaulting me or my family and thus finding out the hard way how I feel about the Second Amendment.
An individual does have the right to say what they want in America, no matter how crazy it is, but of course being the campus newspaper the Cougar is seen to represent UH, and its students, yeah right.
This is the problem with the monopoly newspaper on campus, but if you read what is in today's Cougar that seems really threatening towards bloggers, it looks like the University Administration is trying to use scare tactics to take away our First Amendment rights with regard to blogs.
In other words, keep up the good work at the UH Conservative Underground. You guys must be doing something right. (Pun intended).
